We have had great success with Bankinter over the last 7 years.  They have a full English website as well as a special number to phone for English assistance.

What are their fees/opening hours? Do they have branches across Catalunya? I had a look at their site and it's only in Catalán, not even Spanish. Do you have an English link?

Hey,

I thought the fees were extortionate, considering in the UK when you pay a monthly fee of £15 on a higher end debit account you at least get perks of insurance, roadside assistance and other benefits.

However, if you don't want any fees then ING Direct are a good bet but they have no English speaking staff for Expats like La Caixa or Banco Sabadell. Also, they are limited on actual high street branches and don't expect them to speak English.

I have heard good things about BBVA as well but like the saying goes....es Espania!
