Are there any Brits currently living in the Begur area who play tennis regularly? - 1 replies

Ali P Posted by Ali P in Things to do and places to go in Begur on Thu Oct 7, 2021 2:15pm

My husband and I are hoping to move to the Begur region of the Costa Brava in the next couple of years. We are both keen tennis players and enjoy playing social tennis at our local club around 3 times a week. We have just returned from visiting the area around Begur where we looked at the tennis club in Llafranc and in Pals but both seemed to be popular with the French, we couldn't see any signs of British players. Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Alison

Meeting long term residents in Begur - 1 replies

Peterhey Posted by Peterhey in Find friends in Begur on Tue Sep 28, 2021 5:39pm

My wife and I will be spending three weeks in Begur this winter (November to December) to explore the town when it is quiet, and to get a feel for what it may be like to live there, in preparation for a potential long term move to Begur in the next 2-3 years. Ideally we would like to connect with other people who have made the jump to live in Begur long term. Does anybody have any ideas how I could find other European 'expats' , or does anybody fancy meeting up for drinks ? We are in our mid / late fourties, originally from Berlin and Paris but have been living in London for the last 25 years.

Advice on area - 4 replies

annava1 Posted by annava1 in Moving to Begur: tips and advice on Mon Sep 13, 2021 9:10am

Hi everyone

I have been in Spain for almost a year.  For most of it, I have been living near Denia whilst I search for a place to put down roots.

For various reason, i would prefer to be north of Barcelona but as I am on my own, and don't yet speak Spanish, I am worried that there will not be an English speaking community to engage with.  Can anyone recommend an area where it would be easier to integrate?  I am looking for somewhere not too far from coast, near somewhere with things to do.  I love yoga, (just finished training as a teacher) and interested in volunteering at animal rescue.  Also if there was a horse rescue, that would be ideal.  I am 61 and love the outdoors, hiking etc.

Just would love some pointers/ideas.  Am going to come up for a visit soon and it would be useful to have any input.

Begur is a place of interest but open to any opinions.  Thanks, Anna

Book swap - 1 replies

Maria28 Posted by Maria28 in Off topic on Sat Sep 4, 2021 8:47am

Is there an English book swap in Begur or locally? I have a number of books and it seems a shame to throw them away.

Hello there - sadly on arrival into Begur on Friday, while we were waiting to check into our apartment, our hire car was broken into and all our luggage was stolen. Our youngest daughter’s red rucksack was also taken which contained hers and our oldest daughter’s favourite, treasured and lifelong cuddly toys.  These are quite literally members of our family and we are heartbroken. We can accept all our clothes, personal possessions and toiletries have gone but we desperately want these little cuddlies back.  We are hoping that they may have been discarded locally and would ask people to bear this message in mind when out walking the dog, etc. Apparently our car was the second car to be broken into on Friday. Please please help.

Hi , can anybody help?

We have brought a Property in Begur and require a Reputable Building Company to review our ideas and help price up these works?

The works will require particle internal strip out ,and construction of new Internal non load bearing walls and internal refurbishment i.e. New Bathroom , Kitchen , Floor Tiling , New Bi-Fold Door onto existing Roof Terrace.

We are hoping to come out as soon as possible and are happy to meet up and discuss further.

This request is to find out who is reputable , available in 2021 and competitive.

Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Simon and Wendy

American Expats with children moving to the Costa Brava - 2 replies

arthurlfarley Posted by arthurlfarley in Moving to Begur: tips and advice on Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:59pm

I wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on towns to live with kids. We've been to Spain many times and are committed to making it our home. We love the different regions from the Basque country (maybe too rainy for full time, but we love it), Andalusia, Madrid, Malaga, Alicante, Valencia and Barcelona, but we're thinking of some of the more year round coastal towns in Costa Brava (Begur, Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Palafrugell) as possibles locations for an American Expat family. We are certainly open to other suggestions. Our plan is to hit all the considerations over a thee month period and ultimately rent until we find right place to buy, unless we happen upon the perfect place right away.

My wife and I, our four year old son (who’s mildly on the autism spectrum), and our 12 year old son are looking to make Spain our permanent residence this year early 2022 at the latest. We appreciate any advice on where we will find the most suitable schools options? We love the locations and towns, with less post world war II block apartments and we hate track homes, basically we only like older character areas, without too much modern development cluttering up the place.

We’re planning to head over this summer and fall to find a place to buy. We'll be pursuing the Golden Visa options, but we may split our investment between a city (Barcelona, Madrid, Alicante, Valencia, Malaga, Seville or San Sebastian) and a permanent coastal town that checks all our boxes for year round home. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you for thoughts and consideration in advance!

Receiving IBI tax bills and paying them when you are not in Spain. - 0 replies

KeithSueA Posted by KeithSueA in Banking and finances in Begur on Tue Feb 9, 2021 11:39pm

We have a property in Begur and have just received via the management company copies of outstanding IBI Tax Bills which have been sent to our Begur property which we haven’t been able to visit for 12months due to COVID.
We would like to receive and pay the bills electronically.

Can anyone give us guidance as to how we can set this up from the UK?
