Hi, we have been looking for a holiday home in the area and like the look of Empuriabrava. We mentioned it to friends who have an apartment in L’Escala and they told us in no uncertain terms to stay clear of Empuriabrava!  We were surprised as it looks nice to us. Any comments/ guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks Chris

Yes seriously! We were surprised as we had more or less decided that Empuriabrava was a place to buy. Any advice on the area from someone who knows it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the reply. Chris

No problem. Ask away. What do you want to know?

I suppose different people have different ideas for their ideal holiday home. It wouldn’t be good if everyone wanted the same thing. We bought a place in Empuriabrava 10 years ago this year and have absolutely no regrets. Happy to talk more or answer specific questions. Amanda

Thanks both for your replies and reassurance.

We are retired active couple with a small dog looking for a holiday home on that coast. The areas we know quite well are really not affordable so we’ve widened our search area.  That’s when Empuriabrava popped up.

When we mentioned Empuriabrava to some friends who had a place in L’Eacala they said they would stay clear but didn’t give us any real reasons why, hence the question on this forum.

Is it possible to find a small quiet place there? We know the population expands massively in the summer months but it’s unlikely we would be there in July and August anyway.

There have been some posts on here about squatting during the winter months, is this an issue? I’m guess it’s very quiet then?

Are there any areas on the development we should steer clear of? We don’t like crazy nightlife anymore!

Do properties there have communal fees.

Thank you

Regards

Chris

I would suggest you might want to look for a place in a community so there will be community charges covering pool, lighting, garden etc. Choosing a place where there are permanent residents as well as part time holidaymakers means there are people around all year so less likely for someone to take advantage of an obviously vacant property. Something else to avoid is apartments that have not been registered. An English speaking estate agents (there are many) will help. Other things to think about are: parking and closeness to amenities. We’ve never had too much problem with noise, but we avoided a place near bars, clubs and the sea front - obvious no no if you want relative quiet.

Thanks Amanda,

That’s appreciated and really useful.

Cant believe that you have been advised not to buy in Empuriabrava we bought a house  here 6 years ago and have not  had any problems at all without any regrets .my only advice is to use a good estate agent who will do the whole process for you from start to finish who is trustworthy.. I would highly recommend Home Select (as you pass Lidle and Monserrat on your right over the bridge. And their office is on the right ) Anita and her team are so helpful and will guide  you in the direction to exactly what your looking for ) they are also very helpful to us 6 years on with any questions we might have .Good luck have a chat with Anita she will not pressure you .
