After a long absence due to Covid, we arrived at our property in empuriabrava in April to find that squatters had broken in and changed the locks. We reported this to the police and are waiting for a court date. I wondered if anyone has suffered a similar experience and if anyone can offer suggestions as to the best way of dealing with this. Also can anyone recommend an English speaking solicitor who might be able to offer advice. Thank you. Steph

Hello Steph,

Unfortunately you might have to wait for two years to get the guys out. Especially as you’re probably not residents.

And you’ll have to pay for water and electricity…

I wish I’d knew an English speaking solicitor, will look around.
If I were you, I’d take a private company to get the guys out. It’s radical, but it’s a solution. See if you can find this if you like this option.

Hi Karin,

Thank you for your advice. We have a court date for the beginning of October and have a meeting with an English speaking solicitor to discuss the situation. We will see what happens in court and then reassess our options

Hello, sorry about your situation and I’ve to say, courts way isn’t efficient and will get you through years of litigations and lots of money thrown for nothing. Just hire the private company and they will get you your property back in no time. Best of luck.

Look at Desokupa on Facebook.  A last resort maybe but they have done work in Empuriabrava before.
