Hey guys 😊

my name is Chris and I’m sadly (or maybe gladly!) getting close to that time where I’m thinking of retirement and spending some of it in Spain

I’m a young 59 and my wife is 53

we are visiting Llorett de mar next week, arriving on Tuesday but only there for four days

We would love to be able to meet up with some ex pats mainly to get some guidance on spending a few months of the year there, but would be nice to hear from people who live there full or part time so we can hear about your experiences and see what you think of life in the sun

if Any of you meet up for coffee in the mornings and wouldn’t mind us joking you, please let me know!

hope to see some of you soon!

Chris and Jules

hello Chris and Jules. My husband and I retired in our mid 50s, and we travel quite a bit. We love the Costa Brava area. Been there for months each time. Lloret de Mar has , in my opinion, 2 lovely beaches and a nice garden (Santa Clotilde) by the sea, but I would not live there in my retirement. To me, there are other much nicer coastal towns in the Costa Brava. Example Tossa de Mar, Sant Feliu de Guixols, S'Agaro, Platja d'Aro. If you will be staying for a few months during the summer then places like Tamariu, Calella de Palafrugell, and Llafranc are nice too. These 3 are lively mostly during summer. Other months, people who own homes there leave, and shut down their properties, and some restaurants close too.

Begur (not in the coast but near) is nice but expect things like restaurants and rent to be higher there.

I prefer the lower Emporda region of the Costa Brava.

Good luck.

Paty

Hi Chris,

We live part of the year on the Costa Brava (Pals). There are some lovely towns and villages along the coast between Tossa de mar and l’escala. We are in the Uk at the moment, returning mid November but if you’re looking for others experiences, I’m happy to chat away from this forum or you could look up U3A Costa Brava on Facebook and I’m sure someone would be happy to get in touch. Kind regards. Lisa

Hi Chris and Jules,

We are a retired couple (59 too) and have had our place in Tossa for ten years now.

Just returned after a month and generally spend around 3-4 months there.

Looked all over Costa Brava before deciding on Tossa and in our opinion it has the best balance of lifestyle and access to busy places, ie Lloret, Girona, platja d’aro.

It does go quiet in winter but I like it like that and there are some local places open all year and plenty of supermarkets etc.

We used Finques Soms as the agent and would definitely recommend them.

U3A is pretty good for catching up with expats but most meet ups are up by Palafrugell and Escala.

Let me know if you have any other questions

Best of luck with your search

Trevor
