First of all my condolences for your late husband's passing. Having to deal with all of this on your own is not easy. I only just recently moved to Castell-Platja d'Aro myself in late October. It took a bit of time to find my footing (I'm on my own here as well). I stumbled upon this website by chance and found them to be very helpful as well as solid and reliable. Even though they are based in Madrid, I feel that their advice might be helpful for you in any dealings to wrap up any loose ends and also point you in the right direction to retrace your husband's NIE. Unfortunately it is going to take some time.
