Hello

We are trying to find Duncan Amos who is a very old family friend.  We know he lives in this area and we normally email each other from time

to time but our recent emails and text messages have remained unanswered.  We know he has been very unwell for a long time and wondered if anyone knows where he is or if anything has happened to him.  Any update would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Regards

Paula

Hello Paula,

I'm afraid I have sad news for you, Duncan was found dead in his flat a few weeks ago, he'd suffered a heart attack. I'm afraid I have no more details. I met him years ago through a friend from L'Escala, he did some work for me. I'd not seen him for many years so asked my friend.

Sorry to be the barer of bad tidings.

Best wishes,

Denise

Hi Denise

Thank you for letting us know , such sad sad news.  I grew up with Duncan in Surrey and have known him for many many  years he was like an unofficial brother to myself and my brothers .  We knew he wasn't very well and its so sad to hear he has gone . We wondered why my emails were not answered and now we know.  Thank you for taking the time and trouble to reply to my post, much appreciated.

Kind regards

Paula

Dear Paula,

At the time of Duncans death, around the 5th. of November 2021, I posted a message here to find out if anyone knew Duncan and could contact his relatives back in England, but no one ever replied and so I took it off the web.  I would like to give you some updates on Duncan and express my grief over the fact that I have not been able to say good bye to him. There has been no funeral, no official announcement, no place where to go and basically bid Duncan our last wishes and thoughts. So, this mail Im writing to you is to fill you in on what I know here in Spain but also to get some news on whether there will be some kind of formal ceremony for Duncan here in Spain, where he lived for most of the last years of his life  As you already know, he was found dead in apartment in Bellcaire by the Mossos around the 5th or 6th of November of last year.  His body was taken to the morgue in Gerona and paper work sent to the relevant offficials back home in England in order to inform family of his death. After weeks of no response, mind you this was already around the Xmas , An autopsy was performed and causes of death were finalised as being sudden heart attack, which was expected, considering  Duncans  health. Weeks passed and still no response from England, The last I heard was that his body was cremated and ashes are sitting on a shelf somewhere in Girona.  Duncan had two daughters living back in England who at this point must know that their father has passed away. Since you have expressed a close relation to him, I felt compelled to share with you all I know and hope that it helps you in your moments of sorrow just like it helps me in saying goodbye to Duncan.

I am an email friend of Duncan from the UK, we also coauthored an electronics book for McGraw-Hill, the American publisher. I have been worrying about not being able to contact Duncan and was very sad but not surprised to come across this thread. Thank you for taking the time to post.

Although I never met Duncan in person, we have spoken on the phone a few times and exchanged hundreds of emails. Duncan's emails were often very funny, and he recounted his experiences as an ex-pat wonderfully. He was very bright and as well as being a very capable electronic engineer and hobbyist he was also a keen amateur historian both of his adopted home in Spain and his English village of Oatlands. He also did technical editing for several international publishers. Duncan had many Internet friends around the world and helped students and newcomers to electronics in Latin America.

Did anyone manage to make contact with his daughters? I know he was estranged from his family in the UK, but his estate is entitled royalties from his book and it would be good to pass on their details to McGraw-Hill. I also know he was good friends with a neighbouring family in his village and if anyone has an email address for them, I'd also like to contact them.

Hello Simon

Thank you for taking the trouble to get in touch,  I'm Paula, and I grew up with Duncan in Oatlands along with my brothers . He became a sort of unofficial adopted brother to me and referred to me as sis in his emails.   As you say he was a  lovely person with great sense of humour and a love of history and we will miss him very much. He used to stay with my brother at my dads house sometimes when he visited England which gave him a great base to research his much loved village and if he wasn't over here he would get me running around the village with a camera each time I visited my family home taking pictures of buildings and places he was working on ,such fun .  After learning the sad news he had passed away,  which as you say came as no real surprise but none the less very sad, I managed to track down his family over here and I understand they are dealing with things and plan to bring him home.   I will let them know about his royalties as I doubt they are aware. His daughter Jennifer is the main contact so if you have an email address you wouldn't mind my passing on to her I would be happy to do so and she can contact you direct.

Thank you again for your time and trouble and for being Duncan's friend, I always worried he was lonely out there but its good to know he had other people who shared his interests and cared about him .

Best regards

Paula
