My husband and are are interested in retiring to Spain and decided on the costa brava region.

We currently live in Los Angeles California and plan on retiring in about 6 years. We decided on that region because the weather is similar to ours and would be easier to adapt. We haven’t decided on which town but would like some advice. Our criteria is a house/villa with some land since we are dog people and would like to adopt dogs while we are there. We don’t need to be at the center of the town since I assume land will be at a minimum but would like to be able to get to some amenities like restaurants shopping etc. a view would be nice and probably closer to the coast as possible. We are planning to visit Barcelona in July and wanted to tour the area. We where thinking about hiring a real estate agent to take us around. I know we are way ahead of ourselves bit I like to plan ahead. Any advice and recommendation la would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx on advance

Hello, we are at a similar stage and bought a house in Tossa de Mar two years ago--planning to retire to Catalonia gradually over the next decade or so. We worked with Sales & Rental Spain, run by a British expat family and located in Tossa, though they have properties all over. They were wonderful during the purchase process and have continued to be of huge help in managing our property from afar. If useful I can send you the contact details via private message.

Best regards, Jennifer

Hi there

We are Planning to do the same . We already have a holiday home in Pals beach but it would not be suitable for all year living . We love the location though. This post is quite old so you may have already decided on a location. I would recommend Pals / Begur / Palafrugell area .

We have just brought a villa in Begur, not in the town as we wanted some land and a pool. About a 10 minute cycle ride to the most beautiful beaches and the same to the wonderful market town of Palafrugell. We know the area well as we have spend our summers here for the past 12 years. It really is a very special area.

We are planning on doing the same. We would like to buy property now with the plan of retiring in the area in a few years' time. We did our preliminary visit last summer, we have visited several times in the past but without seriously thinking about it being our retirement location. We will be back this May and would like to contact a real estate agent that has experience working with USA ex-pats retiring to the area. We are ready to start looking at some properties. Our initial thought is L'Escala, mostly because we have friends there, but are open to exploring some of the other towns close to there. Does anyone have any recommendations for an agent that works predominantly in that area? Of course, I can Google it, but would it would be easier and probably better if it was a recommendation from someone who has maybe done the same.
