Can someone please update me with the best way to get UK TV in Calonge. Is there a box to buy or do we just need a UK IP address?

Hi Just mines to Lloret and as such I am a complete newbie. I really have no idea about how to get UK tv reception so any information such as freesat installers would be really appreciated

Hi Chris

A couple of years ago the Astra satellite that hosts BBC etc was repositioned to narrow the beam - this was to ensure that non-licence payers in Europe could not watch for free.

I have a place up near Figueres - I looked at various Web sources and calculated that I would need a 3M dish to get a signal from new satellite location  - I had been able to get UK TV on a 30cm dish until then.

I guess you can ask what Sky Europe can do for you but it's not a path I trod - perhaps these people can help

https://uksatellite.tv/

A decent broadband connection (over 2Mbps) will allow streaming of non-HD TV but a lot of services (BBC Iplayer) do not allow non-uk IP addresses to access programs. I think the same applies to things like Firestick - generally you have to hide your internet geographical location using a service called  VPN.

I have a UK friend who has a place in my town in Spain - I could ask him what solution he has found if it would help?

Hope I have helped -  sorry it's not a simple answer - if you want to ask more feel free

Thanks for the info and quick reply. There seems to be so many conflicting stories i get quite confused. I also had read about the satellite footprint but apparently  small dishes still work on the Costa Blanca but not here. Still there must be someone out here who knows the facts and what i need and can install it. I have a fibre internet so that also is a route but I haven’t got acces to a 2 year old who can tell me how stupid i sm and it is simpe.

Hi Chris, Bruceom provided a link to channel hopper that I had a look at

Channel hopper is internet based (2.5Mbps needed), refers to use of a smart TV amongst other devices and subscription based.

If it delivers what is claimed looks like a tidy solution but there is a caution on the channelhopper site in the section "how it works" that says "Note that a small number of ISPs block DNS redirection which is required" -  they suggest a check of service availability using a PC   - not something I can do as I am back in UK - the thing about blocking DNS is to do with hiding your location from TV service providers so they think that you are using your "device" in UK.

Doing a Google search on Channelhopper eventually got me to Trustpilot reviews which had good and bad comments- that also led me to a similar service called Expat Prime with a 14 day free trial - could be worth a go - BTW I am only doing this research for my own interest, I am not linked to any company

P.s. for a explanation of the issues involved in watching UK tv in Spain, Google Expatica - living abroad section

Thanks everyone for your help. I suppose my problem is that i am 76 and I have difficulty understanding aii of this modern technology. What I really need is someone to come along and set it up for me. Is there really no one who does this commercially.

I guess the easiest route would be to get a dish (but it may be a large dish !)  and decoder box set up on the Astra satelite and then buy a UK SKY access card from   SKYCARDS.EU based in UK  - phone number     INT: +44 (0) 2032 838 000

Not something I've done myself but you could give then a call - have a look at their website - they may be able to get you sorted.
