Hi,

Myself and partner have just moved to Calonge and would love to find like-minded individuals for walking, socialising, tennis or any other social activity in and around the area in English.  We are 50+.  We are also looking for any volunteer work we can do to help - from gardening to dog walking to ....... (all things considered!).  Hope to meet friends with a good sense of humour soon!  Nicola and Charlie

Hi, welcome to the Costa Brava, we have a place in Tossa, however, only spend around three months per year. I assume you have heard of the U3A? They are all over the area and have loads of activities you may be interested in. Best of luck.

Hi many thanks for your message.  Yes, we do know about the U3A.  Though, as with all things right now, unfortunately, group activities are very limited, if not suspended.  Was hoping to find some local people who play tennis or walk.  Enjoy your 3 months in Tossa😄

Join the u3a Costa brava. They have a lot of activities that could interest you. Have a look at their website. It is a great way of making friends very fast

Hello, my wife and I are planning to retire to the area. We are trying to decide between Tossa and Calonge.  I retire in 2.5 years and will be moving from USA.  We are 60 and would love to start making some English speaking friends in the area.

Hi Nicola and Charlie

Your post is from a year ago, but just wanted to say hello and welcome you etc. I assume you must be starting to settle here by now.

I'm not far from you, based in Sant Feliu de Guixols.

I'm involved in organising social group events and activities as part of a MeetUp group. English is the group language, but the group is a mix of catalans and other nationalities.

Happy to meet for a coffee to tell you more. Am also English BTW.

Not sure how this works on the forum, but feel free to message me.

Hi Monique,

Great to hear from you-thanks a lot for getting in touch.  Yes, a year has already passed and we have now just moved to the outskirts of Platja so even nearer to you!  Would be great to meet for a coffee to learn more about your meet up group.  I work during the week but usually get home around 4ish.  If you'd like to Email me directly on; [email protected],  perhaps we can arrange to meet soon?

Very best wishes

Nikki and C!

Hi Monique

I hope you don't mind me writing to you.  I read your response to Nicola and Charlie and was hoping you could help or give some pointers!

I am currently staying in Denia but am interested in moving to the Costa Brava area.  I don't have any contacts there and being on my own I was wondering if there was any chance of having a chat about the area.  My reservation about being further north is that it will be harder to meet English speakers.  I have not yet learnt Spanish as still quite new in the country!   I am coming for a visit the week of the 18th October and it would be amazing to get some pointers about potential towns etc before I go.  Hope you can help but please don't worry if not!  My e mail address is;- [email protected].

Thanks!

Anna

Hi Anna,

Lovely to get your email and myself and Monique are now connected and it has been a great chance to meet another Brit who us a likeminded spirit in the area.

The area where we have settled is S'Agaro/St Feliu and Platja d'aro outskirts which are lovely and very well serviced with all you need- shops, sports, beach, countryside and miles of coastal walks. I'm learning Spanish(Monique is fluent!) and get by OK.  Here in this particular area they are used to tourists so you can often get by ok.  There are many older Catalans who don't however speak the language and Catalans are very proud of their language and indeoendent culture, and a modicum of Spanush and a bit of Catalan will always stand you in good stead!  There are locally funded courses which start in Oct.

If you want to get in touch please feel free to email me at [email protected].

I should be around w.c 18th Oct if ypu do end up coming out and want to meet up and ask anything i can help with.  I won't speak for Minique but she is also a very helpful lady and am sure will pass on any learnings she had too about settling here.

Bye for now and Best wishes

Nicola
