Hello, we are looking to buy a property in Tossa and have seen something we like. We are communicating with an estate agent but they don't have an office. They apparently work from home. I'm sure they are bona fida as they have a website and loads of properties for sale but how can we check? Also does anyone know if we should get our own solicitor or go through the agent?
Definitely get your own solicitor and not one 'recommended' by any agent. That way the solicitor will be working for you and they can check that all is in order for the buying process.
Make sure the solicitor you choose has a good website and answers your emails quickly and in English when you ask them about using their services. That way you will know if they will suit you.

If you are not absolutely sure about your agent being genuine you could ask on here if anyone has used them to reassure you.

We now have our own solicitor. But this process is very confusing. Does anyone know approximately how long it takes to buy in Spain?

Ours took about 2 months but the most important thing is that all the papers are in order on both sides .
The notaries are very particular about everything. Both parties and solicitors and the representative form Bohr parties banks have to go to the notary to sign in front of him

Thanks for the help Karen. We took your advice and got our own solicitor and we now have a great apartment in Tossa. We now need to set up English tv and Internet. The only thing is that we will only be coming out for a few weeks at a time to start with. Hopefully I will be retiring this year so will then be there for months at a time. Do you live in Tossa?

We dont live in Tossa yet vut afe renovating a house in Santa Maira de Llorel. We come out periodically and intend to spend more time as we Re also heading towards retirement. Whereabouts is your place?

We're near the beach. Above the supermarket that's closest to the beach. We can't see the sea, but we can hear it! Our apartment needs a little work such as new patio doors but it's not urgent. You probably know of reputable workmen in the area when we get round to it. Have you been visiting Tossa for many years like us? I always thought I would end up here one day, we seem drawn to the place.

Hi Wendrush and Karen. We’ve got a house in Santa Maria too which we’ve been renovating over the past 2years. Hopefully it’ll be finished for retirement. Just trying to sort out planning permission for another floor. We are over for summer and it would be great to meet up with you guys if you’re there too. Lesley and Julian
